Ionian Islands Hit By Severe Weather Conditions

kefaloniaThe extreme weather conditions that have damaged Greece in the past week, continued on Friday with two major Ionian Islands feeling the effects.
Apocalyptic weather conditions that developed on the Ionian islands of Kefalonia caused severe property damage and safety hazards on Friday.
Heavy rains flooded the island with residents facing serious mobility problems. 90 people who had been trapped in vehicles, houses and stores due to the flood were rescued by the police and fire departments according to Kefalonias’s Regional Vice Governor Panagis Drakoulogkonas, Protothema reports. The island also lost electricity power for four hours in the afternoon.
The island of Corfu, which is close to Kefalonia, felt the inclement weather conditions, as well. One of the island’s graveyards in the south, was damaged from the heavy rainfall and strong winds. Five graves were wrecked with graves being blown away and removed from their original position.
Other parts of Greece have been damaged from the extreme weather conditions earlier in the week, as two people passed away on Monday and a storm wreaked extensive havoc on the island of Skopelos.
