Pizza is one of the most beloved comfort foods in the world, and the classic dish is even better when crafted with Greek flavors.

Made with tzatziki, olives, feta, and gyros meat, the Mediterranean Gyros Pizza recipe from Grecian Delight | Kronos Foods puts a delicious Greek twist on a classic Italian favorite.

In pop culture, the food is indelibly linked to the country of Italy, and large portions of  menus of Italian restaurants are comprised of the beloved pizza.

Yet, the idea of a flat piece of dough topped with herbs and cheese seems to have originated in ancient Greece.

There is historical evidence that Greeks ate a flat bread called “flat,” or πλακούς (plakous) in Greek, baked in a mud oven and topped with olive oil, herbs, onion, cheese, and garlic.

Italian folklore has it that pizza as we know it today originated in a primitive form in Naples as the food of the poor.

The original ingredients were simply flour, water, and a tiny bit of tomato paste on top. If more ingredients were available, those would be added on top, too.

Ingredients for Greek Pizza

Partially Baked Pizza Crust 12”

KRONOS Gyros OR KronoBROIL® 1.5 cups

Kronos Tzatziki Sauce 1.5 cups

Lemon Juice 1 tsp

Tomato, Diced 1/2 cup

Red Onion, Sliced 1/2 cup

Kalamata Olives, Pitted, Sliced 1/3 cup

Feta Cheese, Crumbled 1 cup

Parsley, Chopped, As Needed

Salt & Pepper, To Taste

Preparation

Sear Gyros meat and hold warm until needed.

Combine Tzatziki sauce and lemon juice, add salt and pepper to taste.

Spread Tzatziki sauce evenly over crust. Top with Gyros meat, tomato, olives and Feta cheese.

Place pizza in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes until crust is golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand for five minutes before slicing.

Cut pizza into desired serving size. Garnish with chopped parsley.
