The men’s World Cup is truly a global event, but all the action for the 2026 games will take place in sixteen cities in North America.

In the US, eleven cities will host matches for the 2026 World Cup, including New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Boston. Another three games will be held in Mexico while two will be in Canada, FIFA, soccer’s world governing body, announced.

Here is the complete list of US host cities: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle. Cities in Mexico hosting games will be Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. Matches in Canada will take place in Toronto and Vancouver.

In announcing the cities, FIFA highlighted each one in separate tweets and in a statement, President Gianni Infantino called it “a historic day—for everyone in those cities and states, for FIFA, for Canada, the USA and Mexico who will put on the greatest show on Earth.”

Meanwhile, the 2022 men’s World Cup will take place in November in Qatar with the schedule announced this week. The US qualified, but Greece did not. The best showing for the US National Team in a recent men’s World Cup was reaching the round of 16 in 2010 and 2014 while the team made it to the quarterfinals in 2002. The Greek National Team, which also failed to qualify for the games in 2018, made the round of 16 in the 2014 edition.

World Cup Firsts

It will be the first time a men’s World Cup is played in three countries, and the first time it will include 48 teams, as 32 teams currently compete.

The US hasn’t hosted a men’s World Cup since 1994. Mexico hosted one in 1970 and again in 1986, making this the third time, a record number for a World Cup host country. Canada has never hosted a men’s World Cup; it hosted the women’s games in 2015.

Fan excitement for the spectacle could also translate into enormous financial success across the continent. It could mean $5 billion in economic activity created in North America and up to $600 million in economic activity for the host cities, CNN reported.
