Travelers arriving in Athens and Thessaloniki will soon pay more for fixed-price taxi rides between the airports and city centers.
In Athens, the daytime fare will rise from €40 ($46) to €50 ($57). The nighttime fare will increase from €55 ($63) to €65 ($74).
The new fares will apply in both directions, between Athens International Airport and central Athens. The changes are not yet in force. They will take effect after the relevant decision is published in Greece’s Government Gazette.
Thessaloniki Also Gets New Airport Fares
In Thessaloniki, the fixed daytime fare between Macedonia Airport and the city center will rise from €25 to €28. The nighttime fare will increase from €35 to €38.
The waiting charge will also rise from €15 to €20 per hour. The maximum waiting charge that can be agreed between driver and passenger will increase from €25 to €40.
The standard taxi tariff is not changing. The €4 minimum fare will also remain unchanged.
What the Changes Mean for Travelers
For international visitors, the biggest change is in Athens. Once the new rates take effect, a daytime taxi ride between Athens International Airport and central Athens will cost €10 more. The increase is smaller in Thessaloniki, where the daytime airport fare will rise by €3.
Travelers should note that the new prices will only apply once the official decision has been published in the Government Gazette.
