Greeks Rush to Donate Blood for Blaze Victims


Long queues were formed in hospitals in Athens and elsewhere by ordinary people who responded to pleas for blood donations for the victims of the Attica fire.
The National Blood Donation Center on Tuesday made an urgent plea to all those that can give blood and blood derivatives.
“In these difficult moments, let us all contribute as we can. People are in need of blood and blood derivatives, at a time of reduced stock due to summer, ” the center said in a statement.
Greeks responded enthusiastically by rushing to blood donations centers in the hospitals of Sismanoglio, Thriasio and Elpis as well as blood donation centers in Attica, Chalkida, Corinth.
A donor captured the scene at Thriasio hospital on Tuesday. He said that the “people’s response was moving.”

More than 180 people have been hospitalized in Attica hospitals following the fire that claimed the lives of at least 76 people. Dozens are still missing.
