Greek ND Leader Rules Out Coalition Government With Greece's Left

Greece’s main opposition leader, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, ruled out all prospects of cooperation with the left-wing SYRIZA government and current Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. In an interview published in German daily newspaper Deutsche Welle on Friday, he made it clear that there was “an abyss” separating Tsipras and himself politically.
Mitsotakis, on a visit to Frankfurt, demanded that early elections take place in Greece, but he noted that he would not force it. He also pointed out that a ND-SYRIZA coalition government would automatically give greater power to far-right Golden Dawn.
ND’s leader also referred to the claims made by U.S. economist James Galbraith about a “Plan B” drafted by former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis. The plan created in case  Greece were to leave the euro, was described by Mitsotakis as having the hallmarks of a coup. He called for an inquiry into the issue by Greek Parliament.
“We voted for a framework that will include structural changes that we support, not because this was imposed by the Germans or Brussels but because these (reforms) are right for the country,” he said, adding that Greece had tax rates higher than most countries in the EU. Not only were the high taxes crushing businesses and driving away investors, they were also pushing workers into the black economy and decimating tax compliance rates.
