Greek Hotel Owners: Athens is the Cheapest Capital of Europe

Greek Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras, requested earlier this week from the President of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises,  SETE, Andreas Andreadis, to take immediate action to stop the noticeable price-hiking observed at several top tourist destinations, such as the Greek islands.  As he noted, “we must preserve the good image of Greece abroad”, especially now that Greece is performing well in the tourism sector, a key sector of the Greek economy.
The Hotel Association of Athens, Attica and the Saronic Gulf issued an announcement, stating that Athens is the cheapest capital of Europe.
The announcement noted that “there is a notable increase in tourist arrivals in Athens during  the first five months of the year, which is a very optimistic sign of recovery that can be mainly attributed to the fact that Athens offers the lowest hotel prices in Europe”.
Finally, the Association noted that efforts to restore hotel occupancy and prices to sustainable levels should be a public issue and a target to be pursued by all Greeks and not only hotel owners.
According to the Association this will ensure more job positions and accumulated benefits in the trade sector, as well as in all other tourism-related sectors of the economy.
