SYRIZA Mulls Breaking Its Core

SyrizaThe central committee of Synaspismos, the main party within the coalition that forms (SYRIZA) – the major opposition party opposing the tripartite Greek partnership government led by Prime Minister and New Democracy  Conservative leader Antonis Samaras –  is due to decide on June 9 whether to disband.
That would be as part of a process to provide the leftist group with organizational and ideological unity as Kathimerini online reports. SYRIZA is a motley and loose  collection of Trotskyites, Maoists, anarchists, ecologists and dissidents trying to co-exist under one umbrella.
If the party, which was formed in 1991, approves the decision to wind itself up, its members and assets will pass over to SYRIZA. After this, opposition leader Alexis Tsipras will chair a SYRIZA congress slated for July 10-14 that will lead to the coalition, a grouping of leftist movements, gaining a single identity and further consolidating his power. He will give the closing speech on June 9.
