Now, New Democracy Leads SYRIZA

dimoskopisiContinuing to trade places with thin margins showing them barely leading each other in surveys, New Democracy has again gained the edge on the major opposition Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) this time by a margin of 2.8 percent.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ ND party got a bump apparently from incoming foreign aid loans which are propping up the stagnant economy while SYRIZA continues to oppose them without offering any other solution besides criticism.
The company Alco conducted a new poll which showed the difference, while still within the margin of error, is the biggest gap between the rivals in months. Previous polls showed them within 1 point of each other. The neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party retains its third place stranglehold at 11 percent, nearly double that of the fading, once-dominant PASOK Socialists, who are bumbling along at 5.8 percent, 38.2 percent less than when they won the 2009 elections.
The Independent Greeks are next at 5.2 percent, followed by the KKE Communists at 5.1 percent, and the Democratic Left (DIMAR) at 5.1 percent. PASOK and DIMAR, partners in Samaras’ coalition government are paying a heavy price for their unrelenting support of pay cuts, tax hikes and slashed pensions that are antithetical to their party’s platform.
During the poll, question about the anti-racist law was posed, with 52 percent of those questioned to be in favor of the law, while 35 percent were against.
