“Good Morning America” anchor to interview George Stephanopoulos

“Good Morning America” co-host George Stephanopoulos, one of the most respected and long-standing journalists in the business, will be sitting down with President Joe Biden for his second big interview since his inauguration.

Biden Press Interviews So Far

President Biden previously spoke to journalist Norah O’Donnell about his plans as President. The interview was aired during the Super Bowl’s pre-game coverage on February 7.

However, the first couple of months of his presidency have featured few media interviews and press appearances.

One of the most probable reasons is the Biden administration’s focus on ending the COVID-19 pandemic as soon as possible. With several landmark deals with pharmaceutical companies, brokered in part by Biden’s team, the US has handled the vaccine rollout exceptionally well.

Vaccine Rollout

The country seems to be on track to attain herd immunity for the population by mid to late summer. This surpasses even some doctors’ and epidemiologists’ optimistic earlier expectations.

The development of the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine is also a big reason for the ever-faster vaccine rollout.

Biden’s interview with Stephanopoulos is mainly expected to cover his COVID-19 Relief Plan. The pandemic has decimated not only US health, but the US economy as well.

Biden signed the $1.9 trillion relief plan on March 11. The plan sends $1400 direct payments to almost 90% of US citizens, funds vaccine rollout efforts, and expands the child tax credit. It is the first major landmark bill of the new administration.

Stephanopoulos’ Second Interview With a President

This is not the first time Stephanopoulos has spoken with a sitting US President. He had previously interviewed President Trump in 2019 for an ABC News Special. The GMA anchor was given 30 hours of access to Trump to help put the show together.

Stephanopoulos recently relinquished his role as ABC chief anchor, but is still one of the most widely-known and respect journalists in the US. He continues to handle breaking news on “Good Morning America”.

Biden recently announced that every US adult will be eligible to receive the vaccine by May 1. His press secretary, Greek-American Jen Psaki, also announced that he will be holding a full formal press conference by the end of March.

George Stephanopoulos’ interview with President Biden will air on Wednesday morning on ABC.
