To the Farthest Place on Earth

Vasilis Vasilas’ latest book, To the Farthest Place on Earth, is about Greeks living on the other side of the world. The author presents the immigration wave from Lesbos to New  Zealand as well as the history of the Greek Community. The book is a sequel to his two previous books entitled Journeys of Hope and Uncertainty, and Our Homeland: Lesvos.

Vasilas, after having conducted a detailed study on Lesbians who migrated to Australia, decided to follow them, using hundreds of narrations and photographs until they reached the farthest destination from Greece: New Zealand.

He used National Archives of Wellington in combination with digitized newspapers and files of the New Zealand National Library.

To the Farthest Place on Earth will be presented on Nov. 11, three days after the 100th anniversary of Lesbos’ liberation from Ottoman domination.
