Madonna has shared a personal reflection on her visit to Patmos, Greece, saying she felt “the presence of God” on the island and describing her return there with her son Rocco as a full-circle moment.
The 68-year-old pop icon posted a series of photographs from Patmos showing moments from her spiritual visit. In one striking black-and-white image, Madonna appears with her eyes closed as she lights a candle, her head covered with a scarf.
“Prayers from Patmos!! What a magical island. I really felt the presence of God there,” she wrote.
Madonna also revealed a personal connection between Greece and her son Rocco Ritchie.
“The first time I went to Greece, I was 7 months pregnant with Rocco,” she wrote. “A full circle moment to take him there again as a Man. Good for the Soul!”
Madonna’s spiritual journey in Patmos, Greece
Her reflections on Patmos followed a wider journey through Greece that included visits to Corfu and Meteora.
During her stay on Patmos, Madonna visited the Cave of the Apocalypse, the sacred site traditionally associated with the visions that Saint John recorded in the Book of Revelation.
The visit appeared to leave a lasting impression on the singer, who described Patmos as a “magical island.”
From Meteora to Patmos
Madonna’s visit to Patmos came after an earlier trip to Meteora, the extraordinary complex of monasteries built atop towering rock formations in central Greece.
The singer visited the Monastery of Varlaam, one of the historic monasteries that form part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. Meteora has long been one of Greece’s most recognizable religious and cultural landscapes, combining Orthodox monastic tradition with a dramatic natural setting.
After the Meteora visit, Madonna returned to Corfu before later continuing her Greek journey to Patmos.
Her subsequent stay on Patmos created an intriguing connection between two places with deep spiritual significance in Greece.

Why Patmos holds deep spiritual significance
Patmos, in the Dodecanese, has been an important destination for Christian pilgrims for centuries. According to Christian tradition, St. John received the visions that inspired the Book of Revelation while living in exile on the island during the Roman period.
The Cave of the Apocalypse, together with the nearby Monastery of St. John the Theologian and the historic center of Chora, forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
