Greek athlete Vasilis Tholiotis won the bronze medal at the European Taekwondo Championship in Munich, adding another major achievement to Greece’s strong performance in the competition.

The 24-year-old competed in the men’s -87 kg category and reached the podium after a solid run that confirmed his continued rise in international taekwondo.

Greece adds another medal in Munich

Tholiotis’ bronze medal came as the Greek delegation continued an impressive campaign at the championship. His success followed the gold medal won by Stella Marentaki and the bronze medals secured by Kostas Dimitropoulos, Magdalini Klakala, and Giannis Papadopoulos.

The result gave Greece another reason to celebrate in Munich, where the national team has delivered one of its strongest recent performances at European level. Tholiotis also repeated his medal-winning result from last year’s European Championship in Belgrade, exhibiting consistency and resilience against top-level opponents.

Tholiotis opened his campaign with a 2-0 victory over Mohamed Mokhtari of the Refugee Team. The Greek athlete showed control and confidence from the start, advancing without dropping a round.

He then faced Romania’s Laurentiu Snacov and produced another composed performance, winning again by 2-0. That second victory secured his place among the medalists and sent  him into the semifinals.

Semifinal loss to top seed

In the semifinal, Tholiotis met Poland’s Szymon Piatkowski, the No. 1 athlete in the -87 kg category.

The Greek competitor was defeated 2-0, missing out on a place in the final. However, his run was enough to secure the bronze medal and a place on the European podium.

The bronze medal marks an important achievement in Tholiotis’ senior career and confirms his steady progress in the sport.

His latest success follows another strong international performance in November 2025, when he won the silver medal at a G2 tournament in Bangkok.
