The acclaimed archaeological exhibition “A Journey to Ancient Greece” celebrated its grand opening on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Liangzhou Museum in Zhejiang Province. This marks the second stop of a highly successful tour across China, following its debut at the Sanxingdui Museum.

During the ceremony, Ambassador of Greece Evgenios Kalpyris conveyed greetings on behalf of the President of the Hellenic Republic. He also extended his gratitude to the Greek Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, for the Ministry’s steadfast commitment to deepening cultural ties between the two nations.

Exploring the foundations of Western Civilization

The exhibition features over 160 artifacts of immense historical and aesthetic significance, spanning from prehistory through classical antiquity to the era of Alexander the Great. The curated collection offers the Chinese public a window into the core pillars of Greek heritage, including:

  • Political Evolution: The birth and refinement of Democracy.
  • Intellectual Heritage: The development of Drama and Philosophy.
  • Athleticism: The origins and spirit of the Olympic Games.
  • Aesthetics: The evolution of the concept of “Beauty” in both high art and daily life.

Ambassador Kalpyris described the exhibition as “a vital bridge bringing two ancient peoples closer together,” noting that it serves as a “springboard for a deeper understanding of Greek culture—a culture that remains at the heart of European and global civilization.”

The exhibition, a collaborative effort between the Greek Ministry of Culture and the Liangzhou Museum with the support of the Greek Embassy, will remain open to the public until July 31, 2026.
