Hundreds of adventurous couples are gearing up to descend on Greece’s idyllic Crete for the annual party exclusively for swingers hosted at the Greek island in what organizers, promise to be a week full of bare skin, lust and sexy fun.
On May 1st, over 350 swingers (couples who exchange partners) from 86 countries will gather at the luxury resort where the event is hosted every year and for the next seven days, will embark on an erotic journey filled with music, sexy-themed nights and DJ parties in, according to the organizers website, “the charming atmosphere of a laid-back yet vivacious beach town decked out with a nice selection of cafes, taverns and shops within walking distance.”
But the fun doesn’t come cheap. Prices per person for the six-day adventure start at 3,249 euros ($3,712) and can go up to as much as 7,199 euros ($8,226) for a room with a private pool. The package also includes, except for the accommodation, three meals a day, beverages, access to various hotel facilities like the spa and the indoor pool, to theme nights and educational PlayShops.
According to the hotel owner, who rents out his hotel while the rest is put together by organizers, once the event is published, it becomes fully booked within one month. Reports say that the hotel is divided in sections in order to accommodate various needs of the swingers.
Upon arrival, swingers will be given a leaflet with instructions and the full list of events while they will be asked to behave decently.
The swingers meeting is organized since 2015 by a Dutch company and it is hosted at the same, five-star hotel in Stalida, a resort town on the north coast of Crete. Nikos Halkiadakis, President of the Hoteliers Union of Heraklion, has said that the swingers descend on Crete has become a tradition for the island and the region.
“They come to have fun. That’s what tourism is all about,” Halkiadakis said. “They wake up around 8.30 in the morning, some prefer to work out, others to relax by the pool until the afternoon. Then they will have lunch and in the evening they participate in games we have, while the night continues with food, drinks and music. There are also thematic night, like the ‘white night’ where everyone is dressed in white, the ‘ancient Greek night,’ the ‘Roman night’ and others.”
Halkiadakis also noted that swingers love local Cretan food.
When Stalida in Crete began swaying to the rhythm of swingers 10 years ago
The Dutch company selected Crete as the place to host the swingers event for the first time in 2015 to celebrate the club’s 15th anniversary.
At that time, it was dozens, not hundreds of couples scheduled to arrive in Crete in order to participate in the swinging event, organized by one of the most popular swingers clubs in Europe.
From the end of April until early May, the region of Stalida was filled with swingers, couples who exchange partners. Swing ten years ago was the new fashion trend in sex tourism that had spread across the globe, and according to experts back then, was quickly gaining ground in Greece.
The travelers were usually high income tourists from Europe, America, and Saudi Arabia. There were even some couples from Greece, said a hotel owner with vast knowledge on the subject, who traveled to Crete in order to have a lustful week-long holiday, explore the beautiful island and participate in partner exchange on which they had invested a lot of money. The event had been sold out.
The whole trip in 2015 cost approximately 1,000 euros per person and the customers appeared quite demanding. They had requested “specific services,” while they also demanded that the hotel sets up mattresses in several areas such as the nightclub.
Moreover, the club wanted everything to stay under control, therefore they had arranged for 40 staff members to be in charge of monitoring the event.
Swinging, also known as partner swapping, is a non-monogamous behavior in which both singles and partners in a committed relationship engage in sexual activities with others as a recreational or social activity.
