The mystery of the Oxford sky ignition, in UK, has been solved, and police have revealed the cause of the spectacular explosion. Residents have witnessed a stunning event. The night sky suddenly lit up and smoke filled the atmosphere above after a powerful explosion.

Police have now confirmed that the mysterious explosion was the result of a lightning strike at a local waste treatment plant.

Lightning ignited the gas cylinders, causing a massive blast that left the sky “pulsating” with fire and smoke. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident, but authorities have closed the A40 motorway and advised local residents to remain home and keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution.

Many viewers took to social media to share their amazement in regard to the Oxford sky mystery. Some of those observers described the phenomenon as a “bizarre” event that transformed the night sky into a mesmerizing spectacle of light.

Thames Valley Police provided information explaining that lightning struck the gas cylinders during adverse weather conditions, causing a large fire. Emergency services remained on scene to ensure public safety.

Severn Trent Green Power said in a statement that the incident was caused by a lightning strike to the digester tank at its Cassington AD plant near Yarnton, Oxfordshire. This caused the biogas inside the tank to ignite.

Lightning Strike Killed British Tourists in Rhodes

In May, a British tourist tragically lost his life on the Greek island of Rhodes after being struck by lightning. Reports indicate that the 26-year-old man was swimming around 2 pm during a thunderstorm, ignoring warnings from fellow swimmers to leave the water.

Following the incident, local emergency services promptly arrived at the scene and transported the victim to the Archangelos Medical Centre. Despite their efforts, they were unable to save him. There is conflicting information in the media about whether the tourist was swimming or paddleboarding at the time of the tragic event.

An eyewitness, Brazilian Wander Machado, who plays for a local football team, attempted to rescue the British tourist. He described finding the victim submerged in the water with visible marks on his face and acted quickly to bring him ashore.

Lightning Killed a Runner

A year earlier, lightning killed another victim in Greece. In a mountain endurance race on Greece’s Mount Falakro in Drama region, one runner died, and another was seriously injured by lightning. The race, organized by the mountain climbing association of Nevrokopi, involved 55 Greek runners covering 36.7 km across the mountain’s six highest peaks within twelve hours.

Initially, the weather was favorable, but around 4 pm, torrential rain and lightning struck. The lightning incident occurred near the finish line, and the injured runners required evacuation by a team of fourteen firefighters with five trucks. One runner, aged 55, lost consciousness, while the other, aged 56, sustained serious injuries. Both individuals were taken to Kavala Hospital. There, the 55-year-old runner was pronounced dead.
