Traveling through the Peloponnese is an experience for the senses. Here, you can embark on your own Greek odyssey filled with history, culinary delights, and outdoor adventures.

Delving into the world of myths and legends

The region is home to many historical sites, each telling a story of the country’s glorious past. Discover the essence of Greece and fall in love with the natural beauty that captivated the ancients.

For a glimpse into medieval Greece, visit the 13th-century Mystras Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This medieval fortress, perched atop a hill, will take you back to the Byzantine era. It was a time when Mystras was the second most powerful city in the Byzantine Empire and a thriving cultural center.

Wander around the still impressive ruins and take in the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. You can explore the Byzantine churches adorned with stunning frescoes and imagine what life was like centuries earlier. In the distance, one can see modern-day Sparta, home to the legendary King Leonidas.

Take a trip to the ancient Greek theater of Epidaurus. Built during the 4th century BC, it is a marvel of architecture with acoustics that are unmatched even by modern design standards.

Sit on the ancient stone seats and let your imagination take you back to a different time. Allow the echoes of performances from another era to resonate through the air. The views at the top are also impressive if you’d like a newfound appreciation for nosebleed seats.

Epidaurus is also home to a smaller ancient theater that’s worth visiting. Surrounded by hills and trees, it overlooks the bay below. It’s a charming spot with panoramic views of the area.

No visit to the Peloponnese is complete without exploring the ruins of Mycenae. This ancient city was a major center of the Mycenaean civilization and is steeped in myth and legend.

Stand in awe before the monumental Lion Gate, explore the imposing Citadel, and marvel at the famous beehive-shaped Treasury of Atreus tomb. It is here in Mycenea, according to Homer, that King Agamemnon once ruled the most powerful kingdom of all of Greece.
