New Quake Shakes Greek Island of Karpathos

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook the Eastern Dodecanese islands at 13:24 local time (11:24 UTC) on Thursday.
The epicenter of the temblor was located in the sea some 57 kilometers (35 miles) east of the Aegean island of Karpathos, according to the Geodynamics Institute of the Athens National Observatory.

The quake was felt clearly on the islands of Rhodes, Kasos and Karpathos.
Professor Efthymios Lekkas, the president of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization of Greece, announced that seismic activity in the specific area is continuing, but the fact that the epicenter was 50 nautical miles away from Kasos was encouraging.
Lekkas said that this new quake is not in any way related to Turkey’s recent devastating earthquake near the city of Elazig since the focal depth of the tremor was 10 kilometers (six miles).
