The central Athens headquarters of the Greek neo-Nazi ”Golden Dawn” political party were completely cleared out by the organization on Monday.
The officials of the racist and xenophobic group recently decided to empty out their premises following the electoral collapse of their party in the recent national elections of July, 2019.
Golden Dawn is now suffering greatly financially, since no state funding is available to the party following its expulsion from the Greek Parliament.
In addition to this, most of its once-prominent members have now left the party, while the trial of its leadership continues for the fifth consecutive year, following the brutal murder of Pavlos Fyssas by a supporter of the far-right group.
The ultra-right organization’s headquarters were located along Mesogeion Avenue in Greece’s capital city. Over the last three days, trucks have been seen transporting office furniture and other items which had been removed from the offices in the building.
Golden Dawn managed to enter the Greek Parliament by winning enough support in the general elections of 2012 and 2015, but it failed to attract the requisite approval from at least three percent of voters in the July 7, 2019 plebiscite.
This appears to have marked the effective end of the neo-Nazi group, as it lost all its parliamentary representation and the funding which that entails.
The results of the July elections offered a sigh of relief to millions of Greeks who viewed Golden Dawn’s presence there as a stain on the country’s history and its democratic values.
