African Heatwave to Hit Greece Over the Weekend

Meteorologists warn that a punishing heatwave with temperatures rising above 40°C (104°F) will hit Greece over the weekend, beginning on Friday.
According to the Meteo weather service of the National Observatory of Athens, the hottest days will be Friday and Saturday, with the highest temperatures in the central regions of Greece eventually reaching 41 to 42⁰C (107.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
“Atmospheric conditions favor the transfer of hot air from Africa to our region, resulting in very high temperatures,” said the Meteo service in their press statement issued on Thursday.
The oppressive heat is expected to moderate somewhat beginning on Sunday, starting from the northern parts of the country and moving southward.
