Poll Gives New Democracy Eight-Point Lead over SYRIZA

A new opinion poll of likely voters gives the New Democracy Party an eight point lead over SYRIZA, while the parties Movement for Change and Golden Dawn share third place.
The survey, conducted by MRB on behalf of the news website, shows the main opposition leading with 31.3 percent and the ruling party at 23.3 percent. Movement for Change (the former PASOK) and the nationalist party share third place, with both parties polling at 6.8 percent.
The Greek Communist Party is in fifth place with six percent, while the remaining parties scored below 3 percent. If elections were held today, the parties scoring below three percent would not be represented in the new parliament, as a minimum of 3 percent of the vote is needed.
The Centrists Union is sixth with 2.3 percent of the potential ballot, and To Potami stands at 1.4 percent, the same as junior coalition partners Independent Greeks (ANEL). Hellenic Solution follows with 1.3 percent and ANTARSYA with one percent.
Almost three percent of the remaining respondents said they would vote for another party, while the undecided and those who did not want to disclose their choice were 8.8 percent. Almost seven percent of those surveyed said they would cast a blank ballot.
Regarding who they believe will win, 53.8 percent said they believe New Democracy will triumph, and 23.4 percent believe the same about SYRIZA.
As for who is the most suitable to run the country, 32.9 percent said they would prefer to see ND chief Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the helm, while 24.8 percent favor Alexis Tsipras. However, a majority of respondents, representing 36.6 percent of those polled, consider both runners as unsuitable for the premiership.
