Stavros Niarchos Foundation Reboots the Greek Language in British Columbia

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, has just welcomed their first group of interns for their program Rebooting the Greek Language.

The Foundation has donated a CA$2million grant to Simon Fraser University for this program, which has enabled the centre to provide the latest in advanced mobile technology and pedagogy to the teachings of the Greek language in the diaspora.

The Rebooting Greek Project aims at lowering the decline of the Greek language in Canada; which at the current rate, could cease to be a living language within one or two generations.

The program is a combined effort by dozens of organizations that feature the latest advances in mobile technology, including augmented reality, a conversational user interface, fully localized content and revolutionary teaching methods based on smart learning analysis.

Ongoing support, maintenance, and upgrades for the project over the following years will be provided by SNF New Media Lab.
