A band that helped define hard rock in the late 1960s is still making new music and filling arenas more than five decades later. On October 13, Deep Purple will bring that legacy to Athens, Greece, for a concert at Telekom Center Athens.

The British rock legends will appear as part of their 2026 European tour, with UK band Jayler joining them as special guests.

Deep Purple Continue to Make New Music

Deep Purple formed in 1968 and became one of the defining bands of hard rock. Songs such as “Smoke on the Water,” “Highway Star” and “Child in Time” became part of rock history.

The band has never stopped recording. Its latest studio album, SPLAT!, was released on July 3, 2026. The current lineup features Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Don Airey and Simon McBride.

Deep Purple were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Their current tour shows that the band’s story is still being written on stages around the world.

The Stranger Things Connection

One of the clearest signs that Deep Purple’s music continues to reach new audiences came in 2025.

“Child in Time” featured in the teaser for the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. Deep Purple’s official channel released the song alongside the trailer, highlighting its new version for the series.

The band then released “Child in Time (Superhuman Stranger Things Version)” as a single in August 2025.

Originally released on Deep Purple in Rock in 1970, “Child in Time” remains one of the band’s best-known songs. Its appearance in Stranger Things connected a classic rock recording with one of the biggest television franchises of recent years.

Deep Purple Return to Athens

The Athens concert is scheduled for October 13 at Telekom Center Athens. The show is set to begin at 8 p.m., according to event information for the performance.

It will be the band’s chance to bring both its classic material and newer music to Greek fans.

The Athens date comes early in a European tour that continues across the continent through November, before Deep Purple head to Latin America in December.

More than 50 years after their formation, Deep Purple are therefore coming to Athens with something more than nostalgia: a new album, a continuing international tour and music that has found its way into a new generation of popular culture.
