Reports on Thursday claimed four Turkish military jets entered Athens’ airspace without clearance.
Greek media, citing official sources, reported that a pair of F-4s flew over the island of Makronissi at 19,500 feet before leaving Athens’ flight information region (FIR) at 2.30 p.m. local time (1230GMT).
Two Turkish F-16s crossed Makronissi and Anthrofaffoi at 20,000 feet two minutes later and made another turn over Agathonisi at 23,000 feet before leaving Athens FIR at 2.36 p.m.
All the planes were identified and intercepted by Greek jets.
Reports that the jets were escorting the official plane of Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan remain unconfirmed.
