Summers are Getting Hotter in Athens since 2001

With temperatures reaching 31 degrees Celsius in Athens in late May, this is expected to be another very hot summer, confirming the data of the National Observatory in Athens that summers in Athens are getting hotter since 2001.
Compared to the 1961-1990 period, every summer in Athens since 2001 has been hotter than all the average highs recorded in that period.
The study shows that in the past 16 years, every one of the 48 summer months was warmer than in the previous period mentioned in the study. Specifically, in 11 of the 48 months, the average daytime high was as much as 3 degrees Celsius above the equivalent in the 1961-90 period.
According to the NOA data, the hottest months were August 2006, July 2007 and July 2012, which was also the warmest summer in the past 16 years.
