Shocking Study: Greeks Champs in Job Insecurity and Worried About Making Ends Meet

Greece is the champion of Europe when it comes to job insecurity, according to the Consumer Confidence report of Nielsen for the second quarter of 2016. Four out of 10 Greeks worry about their job, and 34 percent of Greeks are concerned about the future of the Greek economy.
Worry about money owed grew from 5 percent to 13 percent, whereas concern over immigration and war were at last year’s levels.
Greeks who believe that the recession would continue over the next year were at 82 percent (a 2 percent drop from the previous quarter). There was an 18-unit increase when compared to the year before.
Concern over the country’s economy remained steady with 76 percent of Greeks worried about their personal finances, and 33 percent stating that they have no money left over. Eight in ten Greeks try to cut household expenses mainly in the sectors of entertainment (72 percent), buying cheaper food (67 percent) and less expenditure for clothing (62 percent).
The report found that the global average for consumer confidence was at 98 units, whereas in Greece it is 52 showing a unit drop from last year’s levels.
The index has noted an increase in the United states (111 from 108) and is steady in Asian countries of the South Pacific and Oceania (107), in Africa and the Middle East (89) and South America (78). In Europe, the index increased by 1 unit point in relation to the first quarter of 2016. An increase was noted in 22 from 34 European countries. The greatest increase was noted in Denmark (112 from 105), the Netherlands (91 from 85) and Belarus (55 from 50).
The sharpest drop in optimism was noted in Portugal (66 from 72), Lithuania (73 from 79) and Belgium (76 from 82).
