New Democracy Says it Doesn’t Recognize the TV Licensing Tender

TV-broadcasters-greeceNew Democracy does not recognize or accept the Greek government’s tender to auction off four nationwide broadcasting licenses, the party said in a press release on Thursday.
The statement follows a presentation earlier in the day of the software that will be used in the tender at the general secretariat of Information and Communications, to which ND presented strong objections.
“New Democracy will not recognize, legitimize or accept a tender in which the National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV) is not involved, directly violating the Constitution,” ND said.
“The government of [Alexis] Tsipras and [Panos] Kammenos is implementing an unprecedented plan to control the Media, building ‘bridges of intertwining interests’ with the old and new TV channel owners. They have no interest whatsoever in observing the law but instead attempts to manipulate the Media,” the party added.
