Tango_Full_moon_AcropolisIn the historic center of Athens the Acropolis Museum welcomed this August’s full moon on Saturday, August 29, with a special Tango event under the Parthenon.
The musical journey started at 8:30 pm and lasted a bit past its scheduled 11:30 pm end time with Tango fanatics and interested museum goers dancing and viewing museum artifacts until 12:00 am. The Acropolis Museum courtyard turned into a large dance floor lit up with the energy of a live orchestra playing tango and milonga sounds while more than 10,000 patrons past through its gates for this single night.Tango_Acropolis
Tango is a partner dance that originated in the 1890’s along the River Plate, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay, and soon spread to the rest of the world. Internationally known artists presented choreographed tango routines, while the public had the opportunity to dance to the music provided by the Marios Strofalis orchestra.
