Spalathronisi First Island to be Sold

spalathronisiA Greek island named Spalathronisi, which is located in Neo Marmara in Chalkidiki, northern Greece, is the first Greek island to be sold at auction.
The island’s starting price is set at €10 million and the auction is scheduled to take place in September.
Myro Antiques House announced the island’s sale and the House’s owner, Stavros Myronidis, said that with this method, the island’s sale price can be clearly seen, all legal taxes are attributed, the owners’ profit is legitimized and bureaucracy is minimized.
Interest has been expressed by Greek and foreign investors for the island and other Greek islands’ owners who want to sell with the same method have approached Myronidis, it was said, unlike almost no interest for Greek state enteprises in a lagging privatization effort.
A Buy It Now Option concerning Spalathronisi has been set to take place until August 20, which means that if the investor, who will meet the owner family’s request concerning the price, will be found during this procedure, then there will be no auction.
Myronidis expressed his belief, during a press conference, that Greek islands are underestimated, chiefly by foreign mass media, and he encouraged Greek ship owners to invest in the Greek land instead of buying property abroad. He concluded that whoever buys land in our country, Greek or foreign, does it because he “loves Greece.”
