Greek Evening in Cava dei Tirreni

images-112The Philhellene Mayor of the Italian city Cava dei Tirreni is organizing an evening dedicated to Greece and the Greek culture on June 1.

The event is being organized in cooperation with the Greek Community of Naples and Campania, and the Greek Youth network of Italy, under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Greek Embassy in Rome, the Italian Center of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture and of the Federation of Greek Communities and Brotherhoods of Italy. The event will include book presentations, a workshop with educational games and many activities related to the  theater, music, poetry and cuisine.

Performances will start from 9 pm and will be held in various parts of the city. The scheduled performances are dedicated to Ancient Greek literature and especially to the Journey of Odysseus and to modern Greek poetry. Three different approaches from three theater-troupes will present this topic.

The Kalokagathoi (which means benign people) theater company will present a walk through Ancient Greek literature entitled, I lived Greek, the second troupe will embody the Journey of Odysseus through the verses of various poems of international literature, while the theater troupe, Arte Tempra will present an anthology of modern Greek poetry with the central theme, Greece. The noise of silence.

A the same time, there will be a presentation of Jannis Korinthios’ book, I Greci di Napoli e del Meridione d’Italia dal XV al XX Secolo. Following,  poems by Kavafis, Patrikios, Seferis, Kalvos, Ellytis, Vrettakos and Fostieris will be recited, while a real Greek feast will start at midnight, with the appropriate music and food.
