Ancient Greek Olympics Airing Daily on Australian Radio

CANBERRA – Australian National Radio ABC is giving listeners a chance to hear about the ancient Greek Olympics as well as the London 2012 Games, with a daily show detailing the exploits of both. The word “Greece” is the keyword on the radio to follow the action – and history.

Radio host Waleed Aly, along with his team, will present information concerning Greek athletes’ distinctions at the London Olympics until the end of the Games and is also telling their listeners stories and data about Greece and the ancient Games the country founded.

Officials of the ABC radio came up with this idea almost a month ago when they decided to cover the Olympic trip of a specific national team. The host said they thought about following the athletes of a smaller country of Africa or the Caribbean but soon realized that their Olympic history may not provide them with enough data to cover a daily show. As a result, they asked their listeners to answer: “Which team should we adopt?” And the answer was easy- Greece!

“There was someone who sent me text messages asking for Greece to be covered everyday,” said Waleed. “The fact that Greek athletes take part in several Olympic sports but also the fact that Greek-Australian communities are really active and powerful and would be interested in our show, encouraged us to choose Greece for our daily show,” he stressed. Greek-Australian and Australians will have the chance to learn everything about Greek Olympic team and the Games at Mr Waleed Aly’s daily show at the ABC radio from 18:00-20:00.
