13th Biennial Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon in Old Greenwich

Under the patronage of Archbishop Demetrios of America, a philanthropic arm of the Greek Orthodox Church, the National Philoptochos Society, held its 13th Biennial Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Old Greenwich.

More than $205,000 in disbursements were made at the luncheon to hospitals and research centers dealing with children’s diseases and services in the metropolitan area. It was announced that locally, The Tender Loving Care Health Center of Kids in Crisis based in Cos Cob is one of the recipients as is ROSSCO Stamford School Community Organization based in Stamford which funds family wellness programs for those without traditional access to medical services.

To date, The Children’s Medical Fund has donated around $2.2 million to medical programs and facilities that offer treatment, innovative research and cures as well as ongoing assistance to medically fragile children.

As an organization of more than 27,000 members nationwide, the National Philoptochos Society luncheon attracts supporters from across the United States. The society has raised and disbursed more than $10 million in the 10 years ending in 2010 alone. Its philanthropy has extended internationally to tsunami victims in Asia and Japan, to victims of the Haiti earthquake, to medical clinics serving children in Ethiopia and Zimbabwe and provided cholera kits to treat the victims of cholera and dysentery caused by the floods in Pakistan.

In the United States, it has supported emergency relief programs such as Assistance to Iowa Flood Victims , Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief, Florida Hurricane Relief, USO Care Packages, and California Mud Slide Relief to name a few.
