Greece Drops in Popularity Among Gay Tourists

Gay tourism seems to be losing ground in Greece.  According to Bloomberg, gay tourism used to make a turnover of $ 140 billion a year for the Greek tourist market.
The Greek islands like Mykonos and Lesbos used to be popular destinations for many gay tourists.  However, now other non-Greek cities seem to be summer holiday destinations of choice, according to the research firm OutNow Consulting, based in Amsterdam.
Another research company states that Greece is not among the top 10 countries that gay tourists are likely to visit within the next three years.
According to Bloomberg, Greece has dropped in popularity because Greek law does not recognise rights to gay couples.
Martin Christensen, co-chairman of the Brussels-based group promoting human rights ILGA-Europe stated on Bloomberg: ”The legal protection of gay rights does not burden the budget of a country. It is very helpful in promoting tourism in the countries to adopt, instead.”
The most popular destinations for gay tourists, as mentioned in the survey results, are six states in the U.S. including New York, France, Spain, as well as Sydney, and Rio de Janeiro.
