BASE Jumping at Zakynthos' Navaghio

Participants of the spectacular sport of “BASE jumping” will offer spectators a unique spectacle at the popular “Navaghio” (shipwreck) beach on Zakynthos island this week.
BASE, the acronym formed from the first letters of the words building, antenna, span and earth, has gained in popularity over the past few years, as daredevils attempt perform a free fall from steep cliffs or other objects, usually from a height of no less than 200 metres. Afterwards they continue the fall with a parachute. Lack of light winds remains a prerequisite for a base jump fall.
Twenty participants from Finland, Brazil, Venezuela, Canada, the USA and Italy are taking part in the three-day event.
