Nia Vardalos was ecstatic when Tom Hanks approached her 5 years ago to co-write a script with him. That script turned out to be “Larry Crowne”, which stars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.
Nia said of her experience while filming, “It was surreal to watch Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts just eating a bagel on the set…It was surreal to see them just walking through air like normal people…”
Tom Hanks actually came up with this idea for a film almost 6 years ago, way before the country’s economic crisis began.
The actress/screenwriter confirmed that the movie is not a documentary about the economic hardship that people face these days. It’s about one man’s very real and optimistic journey through life and what happens if you have to reinvent yourself. She also confirmed to Celebrity Circuit that working with Tom and seeing him in the director’s chair was an experience she had never had before in her previous projects. She enjoyed being on the set, on a day to day basis, not having to go through hair and make up. She was there just to watch, behind the cameras this time, having just a baseball cap and some lipgloss on.
