Ippocrates’ Tree Branch Planted in Melbourne

According to local tradition, there lies a long tree where Ippocrates taught his students on the island of Kos. A branch of this tree will be planted next year in Melbourne.  This is the second branch of the tree to be planted in Australia;  one is planted in Sydney.

This summer there was a meeting on Kos with Greeks from Australia, New York, Montreal, Chicago and Brazil to discuss their relations with their hometown and the strengthening of  friendship and collaborations.

The Mayor of Kos accepted an invitation for the events of the 25th March celebrations.  Additionally the Mayor stated that he would transfer a branch from the legendary tree and a statue of Ippocrates.

He also accepted to name the new park in the city of Kos: “Park of the Emigrants of Kos”.
