Ambetios School Marks 150th in Athens

dcb55157177582bfee8df2701d2be496One and a half century of history which sculpted education in the lives of thousands of Egyptians revived on June 8 at the Onassis Culture Center.
The celebration of the 150 years of the Ambetios School of Cairo along with the celebration of 40 years of the prelacy of the Archbishop of Sina, Pharan and Raithos, Damian, was a touching anniversary organized by the Association of the Ambetios School of Athens in collaboration with the Monastery of St. Catherine of Si, with the participation of distinguished alumni of the historical school. A commemorating event for many generations of Egyptian Hellenism imbued by the high education and values of ​​Ambetios.
Reports, memories and experiences, pictures and snapshots from director Costas Ferris’ documentary, as well as the  awarding of school graduates from the 40’s and 50’s, culminating in the award of an honorary plaque to Archbishop Damian, composed a special day of reunion and emotions for the Egyptian.
The anniversary was honored by the presence and speeches of the Doctor of International Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Leonidas Papadopoulos, professor-researcher of the Academy of Athens, Efthimios Soulogiannis, the PhD Atmospheric Physics at National-University of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Christos Zerefos, the philologist, Christos Dionisopoulos, the shipwright-engineer Dimitris G. Kapaitzis, author Persa Koumoutsi, Chairman of the Greek Community of Cairo, Chris Kavalis and Archimandrite Arsenius.
