Athens Saxophone Quartet to Make Rare Appearance in Chicago

Chicago’s Katerina’s is a popular club known for its eclectic mix of world music. On April 16, in its “New Sounds” Concert Series, Katerina’s will present a must-see unique cultural event featuring the Athens Saxophone Quartet, one of Greece’s leading ensembles.

They’ll perform compositions from Greek composers as well songs that relate to Greek culture as well as the Easter season. The members of the Athens Saxophone Quartet are virtuoso musicians and university professors.  The night’s performers include Michael Adamis , Christos Chalnaridis , George Flynn, Eric Honour, Theodore Karathodoros, Ilya Levinson, Marina Litou, Robert Lombardo, Janice Misurell-Mitchell, Spyros Panaousis, Christos Samaras, Nikos Skalkotas, Stephen L. Syverud, Dimitris Themelis and Athanasios Zervas, plus more impromptu guests artists.

The Athens Saxophone Quartet will perform under the direction of Dr. Athanasios Zervas, assistant professor at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki Greece, Music Department. He is on sabbatical this year and is spending most of his time in Chicago teaching as a visiting professor at the Columbia College. “We look forward to sharing some of our sound – World Greek Art Music- with the Greeks of Chicago,” Dr. Zervas stated.
