President Anastasiades Congratulates Tsipras on Prespa Accord

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades congratulated Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras over last week’s ratification of the Prespa Agreement before their meeting in Nicosia on Wednesday.
Anastasiades said that the Greek prime minister showed courage and boldness and put an end to a “needless” conflict which has plagued Greece for thirty years. In addition, it opened new windows for cooperation, peace and stability in the region.
“The name, more or less, was given in 1992,” noted Anastasiades, adding that all issues related to irredentism included in FYROM’s constitution have now been put to rest.
On his part, Tsipras said that the ratification of the Prespa Agreement was a truly historic step which promotes Greece’s international credibility, with international law as its main weapon. For this reason Athens believes the Agreement will assist in future efforts to reach a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue.
