The Herodion Theatre Had the Largest Roof for 17 Centuries

The Herodion Theatre held a unique record back in its glory days; it had the largest united roof of ancient times for more than 1,700 years.
That was the finding of the vast research carried out by the Architecture Professor of the National Technical University of Athens, Manolis Korres, regarding the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and every formerly roofed ancient building.
In order to build the extremely big roof of the Herodion Theater, the contemporary architects borrowed some patents from the bridge making process of their century (2nd B.C.).
No other roof was as big as that of the Herodion. Not the roof of Aula Palantina in Trier, Germany, nor the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, Italy were as large.
The worldwide record of the roof of the Herodion Theater was not broken until 1818 by Agustin Betancor in Moscow. For many centuries, the roof of the Herodion remained the greatest.
