Greeks Pen Open Letter Supporting a Brexit Invoking WW2, Struggle for National Sovereignty

brexitAccording to zerohedge.com, the Amesi Dimokratia Pressa in Greece has penned an open letter in support of UK choosing a Brexit and leaving the EU. The group is made up of “political parties and groups, as well as from the cultural fields.”
They said that the letter written came from a place of empathy, as the coalition of Greeks base their support of Brexit on their own national experience with what they called an anti-democratic institution, the EU.
The letter invokes much passion and is quite direct as it addresses the British people.
“Your Battle of Britain [on] the 23rd of June 2016 will be against the new Axis powers of the Eurounion, which occupies our Europe and tries to split the UK society through fear. We experienced this in Greece, starting some years ago, when their Troika instrument (with decisive role from the EU regime) started trying to split our society and occupying our country again.”
The group also referred to the struggles of continental Europe to achieve a free democracy and national sovereignty in the years before and since WW2 as they wrote:
“We fought together against the Axis powers of the 20th century and now we are fighting them again in the 21st century. We fought for freedom, independence, justice and the human values included as ideals of Hellenism,” the Greek sympathizers wrote.
“We fight for the same today and as in the 20th century, we will both win again.”
The letter highlights both left- and right-wing arguments as example, addressing both the Trans-Atlantic Trade Agreement (TTIP) and the migration crisis gripping southern Europe, particularly, Greece.
Also another interesting point is that the letter appears to be signed by high-ranking Greek political personalities such as Ioannis Kouriannidis, the local government leader of Thessaloniki, Manolis Paterakis, president of the Panhellenic Federation of Cretan Cultural Associations, the Agrarian party of Greece, and the Hellenic Direct Democracy Movement.
Before explaining the “Greek experience,” the group’s letter backed up their disdain for the EU and its actions by noting the numerous times the EU has overridden or blatantly ignored national referendums.
“We, the Greek people, voted in July 2015 against further austerity measures required by the Troika, and our vote was ignored,” they write.
“Prior the referendum even [the] highest officials of the European Union warned the Greek people not to vote “NO” as this would lead to a Grexit, even this is not ruled in the European treaties.”
Brits will vote on the UK’s referendum to stay or leave to EU on June 23.
