Jennifer Aniston has taken to social media several times during the last few weeks to urge fans to wear a mask and take the current coronavirus pandemic seriously.
On July 19, Aniston shared a photo of her friend Kevin in the hospital. He had been admitted in April suffering from severe COVID-19 symptoms, and though he has been released, he is still recovering from the virus.
Aniston stressed the fact that Kevin was an otherwise healthy man, and not in the high-risk group the virus tends to affect most severely.
It’s an important message since cases have been increasing most drastically among young, healthy people who feel they are immune from the worst effects of the virus, though some end up hospitalized or even dead. Many young people who don’t end up in the hospital still have symptoms for months on end without doctors having a firm understanding of when they will recover.
Aniston also shared her and Courteney Cox wearing masks together, and had previously shared a photo of her wearing a mask, encouraging her followers to do the same.
Her caption stated, “I understand masks are inconvenient and uncomfortable. But don’t you feel that it’s worse that businesses are shutting down… jobs are being lost… health care workers are hitting absolute exhaustion. And so many lives have been taken by this virus because we aren’t doing enough.”
In addition to raising awareness, Aniston has personally donated to both COVID-19 relief charities and Black Lives Matter-related organizations in the last few months.
