Aussie Greeks Always Inventive: Arthur Panagiotaras to Fund Creation of Docklands’ New Hot Spot

Thanassi (Arthur) Panagiotaras is a Greek Australian man who is partly funding a new multi-purpose theatre in Docklands, Melbourne.

If the project is approved, the theatre will become, according to its inspirators, the city’s new hot spot. It will be close to Collins street and will have an average capacity of 300 people.

Mark Diaco, artistic director, comments that the theatre could support Melbourne’s centre  culturally and financially while it would show Australians of Victoria that this Melbourne  has many hidden enchanting corners awaiting for them to discover.

He stressed the fact that Docklands is not offering many art opportunities at the moment. “I strongly believe that art gives a boost to culture and could push our country forward,” says Mr Diaco adding that the Docklands Theatre could be a facilitator in this direction.

The project’s design includes a theatre which could be turned to a 3D digital cinema, where the new Docklands film festival could also be hosted, as well two bars for visitors.

But every project needs a sponsor and so, partners of the Dock Theatre are seeking funding from both individuals and the state. Mr Panagiotaras says that they are in the the concept stage right now but are moving onto development (hopefully soon).
