The Greek TV channel ANT1 in collaboration with the famous British ballet company, Royal Ballet, based in the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, has secured the viewing of five great performances for the season 2013-2014.
The Royal Ballet has a wide-range repertoire. It presents great classic ballets, the legacies of Frederick Ashton and Kenneth MacMillan, as well as new productions from the most famous contemporary choreographers.
The performances are broadcasted under the «Royal Opera House Live Cinema» program that is very successful and has gained many fans in the UK and throughout the world.
As arranged by ANT1 Groups of Greece, during the 2013-2014 season, Greeks will also have the opportunity to attend three more excellent productions. The viewing will take place in selected cultural venues and theaters.
“Giselle” is one of the most beloved romantic ballets of all time. The story combines an enchanting mixture of suffering, supernatural forces and the transcendent power of self-sacrifice. This Sir Peter Wright production captures the romantic ballet atmosphere, particularly during the “white act” where graceful young women wander in the forest in spectacular formations, one of the most famous scenes of the corps de ballet.
Giselle dances lightly, giving the feeling of being suspended in the mist. This is one of the most beloved and admired Royal Ballet productions, faithful to the spirit of the original 1841 production and yet fresh with each new presentation.
This ballet is a heartbreaking story of betrayal and forgiveness, supernatural spirits and a love so strong that it even transcends death. Ballerina, Natalia Osipova, uniquely embodies the title role. She has excellent technique, and manages to pass the intensity of the drama to the audience. The charming Carlos Acosta, who dances the role of Count Albrecht, is considered one of the most important dancers of his generation.
