Uganda’s Army Chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced this week that a DNA test revealed he is 14% Greek. He told followers on X that he had always believed he was related to Alexander the Great. He also said he plans to visit Greece and hopes the country will not require him to apply for a visa.
Kainerugaba is the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. He currently serves as Chief of Defence Forces, the highest military position in Uganda, after his father appointed him to the role in March 2024. He shared the DNA results in a series of posts on X. The test also placed his ancestry at 19% Somali and 7% English. He said the remaining portion of his genetic background is a state secret.
The posts attracted considerable attention online. Some in the media have called him the “tweeting General,” a reference to his frequent and sometimes controversial use of X. He has become increasingly outspoken on social and political issues in recent years.
Recently, I checked my DNA. Apparently, I'm 14% Greek? I always knew I was related to Alexander the Great. I'm going to visit Greece and I hope they won't ask me for a visa.

The announcement that Uganda’s army chief traces Greek roots came during a broader string of provocative posts.
Turkish women, war threats, and a border immigration plan
In mid-April 2026, he had demanded one billion dollars from Turkey and asked for the most beautiful woman in the country to be given to him as a wife. He threatened to cut diplomatic ties with Turkey if those demands were not met.
In his more recent posts, he said he has already married five Turkish women. He also warned that the next time Turkey threatens him or Uganda, there will be a serious fight.
Kainerugaba also addressed immigration, saying most Ugandans share a similar genetic profile. He stated that Uganda would stop short people with large noses and no “nyashes,” a slang term, from entering the country.
Kainerugaba has announced plans to run for the presidency in 2026. In 2022, he was removed from a previous military command after posting on X that he could seize Nairobi in under two weeks.
