Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior announced that First Lieutenant Dana Al-Shaleen will study aviation sciences in Greece, making her the first woman in the country’s history to train as a police pilot.

The move marks a significant milestone for Kuwait’s security and military institutions. Previously, no female officer had ever entered pilot training within the Police Aviation Department.

Meanwhile, Air Commodore Salem Al-Shehab, who also serves as Director General of the Police Aviation Department, described the scholarship as a historic breakthrough. He explained that Al-Shaleen will complete an intensive aviation program that combines academic coursework with hands-on flight training.

After completing the program in Greece, she will qualify to serve as the first female pilot officer ever with the Police Aviation Wing in Kuwait.

In addition, Al-Shehab has said the initiative reflects Kuwait’s long-term strategy to empower women and expand their participation across security services. Furthermore, the program supports the Interior Ministry’s wider modernization agenda led by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah.

He added that strengthening women’s roles in specialized security fields forms part of Kuwait’s institutional development strategy. Therefore, the ministry aims to ensure its operational capabilities keep pace with technological and aviation-sector advancements.
