NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson is once again enjoying his annual summer vacation on the Greek islands, reaffirming Greece’s status as a top destination for the basketball icon. The former Los Angeles Lakers star began his tour on the Ionian Islands, accompanied by his wife and friends.
So far, Johnson has been spotted soaking up the sun and sea on Corfu and Kefalonia, experiencing renowned Greek hospitality firsthand. He’s been actively sharing moments from his trip on his Instagram, posting photos and expressing his enthusiasm for the country’s beauty. Johnson is expected to explore more Greek islands in the coming days.
“Cookie and I are enjoying our time in Greece with our friends Dave and Tonya, Tony and Vanessa, Frank and Nina Cooper, and Eula Smith. Take a look at the beautiful castle lit up at nighttime!” he wrote on Instagram.
Magic Johnson and his love affair with Greece
In 2022, Magic Johnson had the chance to speak with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “I had the honor and pleasure of getting a surprise call from the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcoming me to the country and seeing how my visit has been so far,” he had reported, adding that he “told the Prime Minister it…[was] amazing and life changing!”
“From the culture, to the history and the food, everything has been exceptional!” he remarked. “The people have welcomed Cookie, me, and our friends with open arms.”
That year, he said he had a “life-changing experience” in visiting the Acropolis in Athens. Johnson and his wife, Cookie, were able to tour some of the most important ancient sites in Athens, including the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, all of which are located near or on the Acropolis.
Johnson said on X, then Twitter: “Today I had a life-changing experience filled with so much biblical history. We visited the Acropolis of Athens, a fortified citadel located on the top of a hill with four Temples. We saw historical landmarks, including the Parthenon, dedicated to Athena the Virgin in 447 BC.”
