New CCTV images appear to show missing TV presenter Michael Mosley less than half an hour after he left a beach on Symi to go on a walk.
The footage suggests he finished a walk to the nearby village of Pedi after leaving Agios Nikolaos beach while on a holiday on the Greek island of Symi.
The presenter, known for his TV programs and his “Just One Thing” podcast, which airs on BBC Radio 4, was reported to have left the beach on Wednesday at 1:30 in the afternoon local time (11:30 BST).
The CCTV footage appears to capture the broadcaster in the town’s main street holding an umbrella roughly twenty minutes later.
A search and rescue operation is still underway on Friday on the Greek island for the British TV presenter who mysteriously disappeared on Wednesday.
Mosley’s wife, Dr. Clare Bailey, raised the alarm after he failed to return to their accommodation after embarking on a coastal walk on the Dodecanese island of Symi.
He was last seen heading onto the coastal path from the beach of Agios Nikolaos back to the nearby town of Pedi wearing a pair of shorts, a blue polo shirt, a baseball cap, and sunglasses.
Agios Nikolaos is a small and picturesque bay on the northeast coast of Symi. It is one of the most popular beaches on the island and therefore one of the busiest. The landmark of the beach is the small church of Agios Nikolaos, located right at its edge. The beach is organized with a tavern and beach bar. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available to rent. However, many visitors choose the natural shade offered by the tamarisk trees located just above.
How can someone disappear in broad daylight?
The walk was supposed to take twenty minutes, but when he did not return as expected, his wife raised the alarm at 7:30 in the evening.
Nikitas Gryllis, the deputy mayor of Symi revealed in speaking to Greek TV that there is a credible report that Michael Mosley was seen in the small town of Pedi waiting at a bus stop to catch the local bus to the capital of the island where he was staying. Police have yet to confirm the sighting.
He also confirmed that the coastal path from Agios Nikolaos to Pedi is wide and used by many tourists throughout the day.
“It’s crazy, [and] it doesn’t make sense. How can someone disappear in broad daylight? If something had happened to him, we would have found him either on the path or near the path,” an official told The Guardian.
Moreover, a resident of the area who spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live about the area where Mosley’s tracks were lost, said, “It’s a path that goes up the mountain but it’s been dug up recently and there’s only path so it’s impossible to get lost or lose your orientation. It is not a route that is very difficult when you start the descent. It is a route that tourists who come to Symi do every day.”
Local police said late on Thursday that the search had paused for the night, but “more men will be coming” on Friday morning.
Search teams deployed a drone and then a helicopter as part of the operation yesterday afternoon and evening, but have so far found “no trace” of Mosley on the island.

The 67-year-old is known for appearing on television programs like This Morning and The One Show. He also hosts the “Just One Thing” health podcast for the BBC.
Mosley is credited with the rising popularity of the 5:2 diet for losing weight, which involves fasting for two days per week.
He was one of the presenters of the series Trust Me, I’m A Doctor on the BBC.
