British TV Presenter Dr. Michael Mosley has gone missing on the Greek island of Symi, which is part of the Dodecanese island chain.

An appeal has been shared in a local Facebook group after his disappearance on the island. The appeal reads: “A search and rescue team is coming from Athens with drones and other more sophisticated equipment to extend the search.”

The post, which included a picture of the medic, added: “Have you seen this man? He set off to walk back from St Nick’s at about 13.30 and failed to make it home. His friends are concerned as it is 6 hours since they last saw him. His name is Dr Mike Mosley and he is a familiar face for many British people.”

The post was referring to Agios Nikolaos beach, a small and picturesque bay on the northeast coast of Symi. It is one of the most popular beaches on the island and therefore one of the busiest.

The landmark of the beach is the small church of Agios Nikolaos, located right at its edge. The beach is organized with a tavern and beach bar. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available to rent. However, many visitors choose the natural shade offered by the tamarisk trees located just above.

One user on a local forum said Mosley “left his phone at his accommodation.”

“These days it should be pretty difficult to get lost on Symi as so many of the paths have been surfaced and there is a lot more activity even in the most remote areas,” it was added.

Who is the British TV presenter missing on Symi?

The 67-year-old is known for appearing on television programs like This Morning and The One Show. He also hosts the “Just One Thing” health podcast for the BBC.

Mosley is credited with the rising popularity of the 5:2 diet for losing weight, which involves fasting for two days per week.

He was one of the presenters of the series Trust Me, I’m a Doctor on the BBC.

More recently, he presented two series for Channel 4, Secrets of Your Big Shop and Who Made Britain Fat?

His programs have won an RTS and Emmy award and he has previously been named “medical journalist of the year” by the British Medical Association.

Symi is the eighth largest island of the Dodecanese archipelago’s twelve islands. There are a great number of smaller islands around Symi, such as Sesklia, Artikonisi, Koulountro, Troubeto, Plati, Oxia, Diavates, and Marmaras. Symi has a unique natural geography consisting of harbors, bays, and headlands. Its most famous harbors are in Scala and Panormiti.

Panormitis is the location of the island’s famous monastery which is visited by people from all over the world, and many Greeks pay homage to St. Michael of Panormitis each year.

The island has 2,606 inhabitants. Most of them live in Marathountos, Panormitis, and Eboriou. In addition to its many historical sites, the island’s isolated beaches, many reachable only by small boats, are popular with tourists.
