In a significant crackdown, the Greek police have apprehended a 28-year-old Greek trapper named Don Leon and two accomplices, aged 26 and 27, in connection with a string of ATM robberies across Greece.

The arrests, following a police raid near Athens, revealed a cache of weapons, explosives, and a substantial amount of cash, shedding light on a sophisticated criminal operation.

Greek Trapper arrested for ATM theft

The suspects are accused of orchestrating ten ATM attacks using explosives, resulting in a total stolen amount estimated at around 710,000 euros ($770,000). The gang’s illicit activities extended beyond the heists, as they allegedly engaged in money laundering by channeling large sums through the music industry and gambling at casinos.

The police operation involved the identification of the three suspects, who were implicated in vehicle thefts used for traveling to different regions of Greece. Employing metal-cutting tools or explosives, the criminals breached ATMs to access the cash within. The trio was arrested in Kifisia shortly after committing an ATM burglary in Ermioni, where they reportedly stole 198,515 euros.

During the police operation, a significant number of items were seized. These include: 206,570 euros in various denominations, a little over a kilogram and a half of explosive material, an M16 assault rifle, handguns, pyrotechnic devices, a pyrotechnic rope, vehicle theft equipment, a metal-cutting wheel, burglary tools, spray paint, clothing, headlamps, mobile phones, and vehicle keys. Furthermore, a relative of one of the suspects was arrested for violating weapons laws, as firearms and numerous cartridges were found at their residence.

The arrested individuals were leading conspicuously lavish lifestyles, flaunting their wealth in both daily interactions and on social media. Allegedly, they laundered their illegal gains by spending substantial amounts through the music industry and casino gambling.

Rap artist previously arrested for ATM robbery

Of particular note is the fact that the 28-year-old Greek trapper had a previous arrest in 2021 for similar crimes and was released from prison in January 2023. In his previous arrest, he pled not guilty.

Ongoing investigations seek to uncover the full extent of the group’s criminal activities and determine if they have been involved in additional cases. The case highlights the nexus between organized crime, financial malfeasance, and the entertainment industry, underscoring the need for comprehensive efforts to combat such criminal enterprises.

The apprehension of the three suspects has brought to light a web of criminal activities that go beyond the typical modus operandi of ATM robberies. The use of explosives and the scale of their operations underscore the level of sophistication employed by the gang.

The involvement of a previously arrested Greek trapper adds an intriguing layer to the narrative, emphasizing the persistence of individuals in criminal enterprises despite prior legal consequences.

The seized items paint a vivid picture of the criminal arsenal and lifestyle maintained by the perpetrators. From a substantial amount of cash to an M16 assault rifle, the inventory reveals the audacity and preparedness of the gang. The connection between the trapper’s family and a violation of weapons laws further complicates the case, hinting at a broader network involved in criminal activities.

The allegation of money laundering through the music industry and casino gambling adds a twist to the story, linking the worlds of entertainment and organized crime. The suspects’ flamboyant displays of wealth, both offline and online, raise questions about the effectiveness of existing mechanisms in tracing and curbing such illicit financial activities.

The recurrence of the Greek trapper Don Leon in the criminal landscape, despite a previous arrest and release, underscores the challenges in rehabilitation and the need for more stringent measures to deter repeat offenders. Ongoing investigations will likely delve into the rapper’s connections within the music industry and assess the extent of his influence on the criminal operations.
